How can I configure my virus scanner to automatically scan files downloaded with IDM?
Please note that for antiviruses that have some kind of realtime protection it is not nesesary to add any settings in IDM. They will scan all downloaded files automatically. But on other hand such antiviruses tries to control all data on your hard drive and network traffic and may damage IDM temporary files and result in corrupted downloads.

You can configure it in "Options->Downloads" IDM dialog. First you need to set virus scanner executable file that IDM will launch. Usually you should use the same executable file that is used when you launch your virus scanner from your "Start->Programs" menu. Press "Start" Windows button (arrow 1 on the image) and locate your antivirus launch chortcut (arrow 2 on the image). Right click on its icon in the menu and select "Properties" from the popup menu (arrow 3 on the image).

Then look what executable file set in the "Target" field (arrow 1 on the image). You need to provide a path to this file executable file at "Virus scanner program" field in "Options->Downloads" IDM dialog. This why higlight and right click on it to copy this path (arrow 2 on the image).

In "Options->Downloads" IDM dialog paste path that you copied in "Virus scanner program" field or press "Browse" to locate it manually (arrow 1 on the image). Then you need to look how to scan a single file from the command line in your antivirus help documentation. Copy this command line into "Command line parameters" option and replace a real file name with "[File]" (arrow 2 on the image).
